During his career as a poet and playwright, Euripides wrote about 90 plays, of which 19

survived through manuscripts. Of the three most famous tragic dramas out of ancient Greece - the others, Essex and Sophocles—Euripides, were the last and perhaps most powerful.

Like all major playwriters of his time, Euripides competed in the annual Athenian Festival held in honor of the god Dionysus. He first entered the theater in 455 and won his first of four victories in 441. He is known to many important philosophers of the 5th century B.C. Sy.
